I, Deborah Hicks Milan, announce my candidacy for Mayor of the City of Union Springs, a city that can accomplish anything we decide to do. We can improve our economic development by partnering with the development authority. We can improve our workforce by attracting business and industries to employ our citizens.
We can only move forward through the collective efforts of our elected officials.
I’m running for Mayor to begin the process of unifying our community and attracting more businesses and industries.
I am a product of the Bullock County Public Schools. I am a 1987 graduate of Bullock County High School; a 1993 graduate of Alabama State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education English/ Language Arts; and a 2006 graduate of the University of Phoenix with a Master’s Degree in Supervision and Administration.
I have served the citizens of Union Springs as a council member and an educator in the public school systems. As a council member, I have served on the police committee, street committee , recreation committee, and the library board. I have obtained my Advanced Municipal Certification from the Alabama League of Municipalities. I have volunteered at the Red Door Theater and volunteered with the Bullock County Distinguished Young Women's Program.
As an educator, I have taught English and Literature grades 7-12 for 27 years, and volunteered as a tutor, served as president of the band booster and served as flag coordinator for the Bullock County High School Marching Band.
As a member of the police and street committees, I have worked to help develop current policies for the police and street department. As a member of the recreation board, I’ve worked with the recreation department to ensure that our younger children have been involved in sports and educational summer sessions. Because of the collective efforts of the recreation department, the local school system is gaining knowledgeable student athletes of sports principles and guidelines and academic standards.
As the Mayor of Union Springs, I want to promote economic development and create a venue for our teens and young adults. Promoting more economic development would provide job employment and a better quality of life for our citizens. Creating a venue for our teens and young adults would give them a place to go rather than the parking lots of local businesses. I want to offer support for our small businesses that will help them increase the workforce.
Union Springs has no other choice but to grow and with my leadership and experience we can work to make this growth a reality.
Please Vote Deborah Hicks Milan as Mayor of the City of Union Springs.
