In June 2020 the national theme for World Elder Abuse Awareness is "Using the Past to Re-Write the Future". The nationally recognized color to represent abuse of senior citizens is purple.
Thousands of the elderly and disabled adults have been and are being abused, neglected, and exploited in Alabama every year, that includes Bullock County.
The Department of Human Resources (DHR) is responsible for investigating reports of abuse, neglect, and exploitation regarding the elderly and disabled adults.
Statewide in Alabama, the DHR investigated 10,827 reports in the fiscal year of 2019.
The elderly and disabled adults have the right to be treated with dignity and respect.
The public can help by reporting suspected abuse and neglect to the Bullock County DHR, 334-738-0111, or to the Adult Abuse Hotline, 1-800-458-7214, or via online at firstname.lastname@example.org. All reports may be made anonymously and are confidential.
