On August 25, 2020, the City of Union Springs will hold elections for the Mayor and City Council. July 7, 2020, was the official date to begin qualifying to be on the ballot.
The last day to qualify is July 21, 2020, at 5:00 p.m. The current mayor gives a notice of the election and must file a list of qualified voters with the clerk. Once the notice is published by the mayor, candidates may begin qualifying at Union Springs City Hall.
As of July 14, 2020, the following have qualified to be on the municipal election ballot for Union Springs.
Candidates for Mayor are Roderick Clark, Deborah Hicks Milan, and Nazareth Reynolds Thornton. The current Mayor is Saint T. Thomas, Jr. Qualifying for Place #1 is Justin Faulk. The current councilman is Earl Hinson. No one has qualified for Place #2.
Stan “Chilly” Cooks is the current councilman. Qualifying for Place #3 is Bertha Coleman Poe.
The current councilwoman is Deborah Hicks Milan. Qualifying for Place #4 are Louis Murray and Evelyn Smart. The current councilman is Roderick Clark. No one has qualified for Place #5.
The current councilman is Brian Agnew. Candidates must file a Statement of Economic Interests form with the Alabama Ethics Commission in order to appear on the ballot.

July 26, 2020, is the last date to establish residency in Union Springs to vote in this election, and it is the first day to display sample ballots.
Polls must be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on August 25, 2020.
On September 1, 2020, commencing at noon, the City Council must canvass the election results.
If a candidate receives a majority of the votes, the council issues a certificate of election.
If no candidate receives a majority, the council will order a run-off election. The newly elected mayor and five council members will take office on November 2, 2020.
