The monthly meeting of the Union Springs/Bullock County Chamber of Commerce board was on June 16, 2020.
Julia Main declined the position of Chamber Vice-President due to her work demands during the COVID-19 pandemic.
By unanimous vote, Lynn Jinks was elected Vice-President. By unanimous vote, the Bullock County Extension is an Ex-officio member of the board.
Names to be considered to fill board vacancies are Ashley Green of TaylorMade Boutique, J. Earl Hinson of Southern Magnolia, and a representative from Dixie Electric Cooperative.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these two items continue to be tabled, Design/Order Membership stickers, and the review of future Chamber tasks. Available funds for the work of the Chamber is $11,587.28.
The distribution of food on three dates was announced: (1) June 19, 2020, Operation Fresh Foods at the Nutrition Center at 9:00 a.m. (2) July 14, 2020, the Mobile Food Pantry at Eastside Baptist Church at 9:00 a.m.
(3) August 12, 2020, the Mobile Food Bank at Eastside Baptist Church at 9:00 a.m. Concerning the election of the mayor and five members of city council, it was announced that qualifying to be a candidate begins on July 7, 2020, and ends on July 21, 2020, at 5:00 p.m.
To be a candidate, one must be a citizen of Union Springs, registered to vote and pay $50 registration fee.
Voting in this Municipal Election will be held at the Union Springs Recreation Center on August 25, 2020, from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Present at the chamber board meeting were: Presetta Walker, Betty Youngblood, Fannie Davis, Lynn Jinks, Sara Smart, Belinda Barto, and Julia Main. Absent was Amber Anderson.
