On Friday, July 24, 2020, Emergency Weather Alert Radios were distributed to senior citizens who had signed up some months to get one free through the local Emergency Management Agency.

Radios were delivered to senior citizens in their cars in a drive-through in the parking lot of the Senior Citizens Nutrition Center in Union Springs. The radio is recommended by the Department of Homeland Security for emergency preparedness.

With the radio is an AC Power Adapter and owner's manual. It is an alarm clock and weather radio in one.

Senior citizens will receive emergency weather alerts for only the local area with specific area messages. There is a battery backup to stay in communication during power outages. Early warning is the best protection in bad weather.
