Bessie Huffman and Darryl Van Leer

By Faye Gaston

The Tourism Council of Bullock County presented "Las Vegas Live" at the Red Door Theatre on May 30 and 31, 2019. It was advertised that the international performer, Darryl Van Leer and the Nashville based DVL band would present the "ultimate Vegas music experience."

There would be tributes to blues legend Muddy Waters, rock & roll legends Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis, pop legend Elton John, soul legend Ray Charles "and more."

As Darryl Van Leer impersonated these famous singers with their greatest hits, he would change his style of playing the keyboard and change wigs and flashy sequined jackets.

The band of four musicians included Darryle Van Leer on the keyboard, two men who played the guitar and trumpet and a woman who played the set of drums. Two women sang solos. The performers danced in the aisles, even with a member of the audience.

Included were such familiar hits as A Whole Lot of Shaking Going On, Georgia on My Mind, Hit the Road Jack, Lucille, and Good Golly Miss Molly.

When Tourism Director, Midge Putnam, gave the welcome, she also invited the audience to purchase CD's , etc. by the musicians in the theatre lobby. She invited the audience to take photos during the two acts of the show and share them on social media.
