Probate Judge James E. Tatum, Sheriff Raymond Rodgers, Circuit Clerk Rashawn Harris, Chief Probate Clerk Elaine Tarver, Board of Registrars Suzanne Johnson (Chair) Doris Roten and Barbara McLaurine attended the Alabama Election Conference 2019, on October 31, in Tuscaloosa.
Secretary of State John Merrill gave an overall view of the election process for Alabama.
Other speakers covered security at polling places, new laws enacted by the Legislature that will effect election procedures, plans to have electronic poll books in all sixty-seven counties (thirty counties do not have the poll books) by the March 2020 Primary, and the duties and responsibilities of each Official during an elections.
Discussions were held on Poll Workers and their responsibilities.
Due to Legislation passed the 2020 Primary Runoff will be four weeks after the Primary.
Voters will have to declare which political party they will vote in due to the crossover legislation.
The Secretary of State Office has published the 2020 Election Calendar Handbook.
The Calendar provides in detail the require days and information that all Election Officials, Political Parties and Candidates must follow during an election.
