City Hall building in downtown Union Springs.

By Faye Gaston

Six Town Hall meetings have been held with goals to improve Bullock County with downtown Union Springs revitalization and up-grading of the Bullock County Public School System.

At the seventh Town Hall meeting on October 29, 2019, Matt Ulmer, PHD, Community Workforce, Leadership & Economic Development Specialist, reviewed the process and concluded the "less positive" results are "not enough action" and "redundancy of conversation."

Then the attendees divided into two groups to plan specific actions, with Brian Agnew the facilitator of the downtown group of ten and Dr. Marvin Lowe facilitator of the public school system group of seven.

Brian Agnew will see that the owners of downtown business buildings are contacted to attend the next meeting of this group on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at the FPH Bakery, followed by a meeting on December 3, 2019. There is a possibility of grants to assist in making improvements. A sub-committee was formed to address the problem of trash and litter.

The public schools group facilitator, Dr. Lowe, distributed pamphlets listing improvements made with a list of what needs to be done.

Results of specific actions will be reported at the next Town Hall meeting.
