By Melita Cantey

On May 5, 1954, two young men, Ceciel Locklar and Bob Austin, left it up to the flip of a coin, to see who won the date with Johnnie Faye Culpepper.

Well to the luck of Ceciel Locklar he won the toss. He won the date with Johnnie Faye Culpepper.

On November 13, 1954 at the current home of Jerry and Jane Cope, Ceciel and Johnnie Faye were married by Preacher Stuckey whom I am sure most of you know. Their witnesses were Jane Cope, Estell Campbell and John and Lena Kate Harden.

Dad worked at Culpepper and Locklar Self-Service Rolling Store along with his brother-in-law, Tommie Culpepper.

Then in February 1955, mom and dad purchased their own Rolling Store—Locklar’s Rolling Store—where they worked side by side for almost 50 years.

On June 15, 1957, Ceciel Franklin Locklar, Jr. was born. Mom and dad took Frankie on the store with them everyday. However, all the customers wanted to touch or hold him. Mom washed Frankie so much, that she washed all the oil out of his skin.

Then on August 12, 1959, Ricky Gene Locklar was born. When Ricky was big enough, mama and daddy had to rearrange the shelves on the rolling store or should we say Ricky rearranged everything on the shelves for mom and dad.

Then on May 11, 1963, the Princess was born, Melita Carol Locklar. However, in order for her majesty to come home, Frankie and Ricky had to get rid of their chickens they had. (I think they wish they had just kept the chickens instead).

For the next 14 years things stayed the same, then on June 30, 1977 Frankie married Martha Shipman from Clio.

Then on June 20, 1981, I (Melita) married Bill Cantey from Fitzpatrick.

On April 25, 1982 the first grandchild was born—Carolyn Faye Cantey.

Ricky married Linda Borowski from Montgomery, on July 28, 1984.

Then on June 28, 1985 Christy Diane Cantey was born (Melita and Bill)

November 22, 1985 Heather Nicole Locklar was born (Frankie and Martha)

June 28, 1986 William Ryan Locklar was born (Ricky and Linda)

December 14, 1987 Carmen Rebecca Cantey was born (Melita and Bill)

June 26, 1990 Haley Jordan Locklar was born (Frankie and Martha)

January 16, 1991 Caitlin Earline Cantey was born (Melita and Bill)

April 30, 1991 Ian Scott Locklar was born (Ricky and Linda)

This finished all of the grandkids.

Carolyn Faye Cantey married Shaun Spivey from Ramer on May 8, 2001

Then the great-grands began…

Shaun Austin Spivey and Jacob Paul Spivey were born on July 15, 2003 (Carol and Shaun)

Lanie Carol Spivey was born on June 27, 2008 (Carol and Shaun)

Christy Diane Cantey married Will Davidson from Troy on May 2, 2009.

Carmen Rebecca Cantey married Michael Sconyers from Clio on March 20, 2010.

Ava Diane Davidson was born on November 27, 2010 (Christy and Will)

Logan Marie Sconyers was born on April 11, 2011 (Carmen and Michael)

Brody Mack Spivey was born on August 8, 2011 (Carol and Shaun)

On December 15, 2012 William Ryan Locklar went to be with our Lord.

Brynlee Reese Sconyers was born on January 2, 2013 (Carmen and Michael)

Emma Claire Davidson was born on July 2, 2013 (Christy and Will)

Caitlin Earline Cantey married Dustin Yeager from Troy on June 7, 2014.

Heather Nicole Locklar married Stewart Civil from Birmingham on August 2, 2014.

And folk this is our family all because my dad won the coin toss.

We also have three other couples here with us tonight that along with mom and dad are celebrating their 60th Anniversary. All four couples are related and basically grew up together along with their kids—John and Lena Kate Harden, Lloyd and Mary Charles Long, Jerrel and Jeanette Harden.

Frankie would you please say the blessing for us.
